Business sense and ‘Going Galt’

Thom Stratton, Examiner.com’s Boise business writer, questions whether it’s too early for “Going Galt” to have its desired effect and explores whether it makes good business sense:

“The reality of the situation is this: Going John Galt only works when the government truly has implemented sufficient redistribution policies to provide disincentive for anyone to produce wealth above the median. As long as capitalism is not completely dead there will always be some willing to pursue more than what they have, even if it’s not as much as what the current ‘captains of industry’ have. In other words, if they abandon their empires, someone else will step up to absorb their customer base.”

It seems every one has a different definition of what it exactly means to “Go Galt,” but Stratton’s piece is still interesting. He posits that we’re not yet living “Atlas Shrugged” — which misses the point. The reason people are “Going Galt” and promoting Rand’s ideas is because we don’t want to be living “Atlas Shrugged.”

The message is that Rand painted a picture of where the world is heading — and we want to stop the engine that would take us there.
